The Members vote to elect the Board. The first AGM will be on October 10th 2022 where the whole Board will be up for election and then 1/3rd each year for re-election. Any member can be nominated to be on the Board.

WHAT ABOUT
OWNERSHIP OF
SPACES AND PLACES?

There will soon be the opportunity to purchase CAN HQ. A share offer will be launched which mean people can invest. The investment may come with tax benefits. A mix of Grants and social investment loans will be used to fund the purchase of the building – meaning it will be in the hands of the community for ever!

PLANS FOR THE
FUTURE

member.jpg

We are carrying out a feasibility study on the Co-op Furniture Store, Belvoir Road to purchase and restore the heritage frontage and become Coop Central, serving the whole community.

We also hope to take on the Hermitage Lakeside site, for the benefit of the community

ABOUT US

WHO ARE COALVILLE C.A.N.

A community co-operative, fully owned by the members where the surpluses created by our activities are recirculated back into the community, as decided by our members.

We call them Peoples Profits!

An ethical landlord, Coalville CAN, guided by its Board and Members will put community assets back into the hands of local people and connect and collaborate with others to make a positive difference.

Built on enterprise, not charity, Coalville CAN, as a community co-operative, believes that everyone can make a difference & everyone can contribute, however small, and everyone's skills and talents are welcome.

EXPLORE HQ AND GET INVOLVED

Thanks to World Habitat, Coalville CAN CBS have had access to a space in the centre of Coalville. This building was built by Peter Elderfield, a local man who became homeless after the war and wanted to solve housing issues. The charity that he set up, originally called the Building and Social Housing Foundation, left their second floor offices due to COVID during lock down and just recently the ground floor became vacant.

Plans for this building include:

Ground Floor: A fantastic space with that looks out onto Memorial Square, and is divided into individual rooms and spaces all leading from the main front door through an open ‘community connecting’ space.
